Tomelleri Engineering has chosen to collaborate with Hydroven for the realisation of the hydraulic system destined for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).
Located in the Atacama Desert in Chile, the ELT represents the future of terrestrial astronomy with its primary diameter of 39 meters, making it one of the largest telescopes in the world.
The innovative hydraulic system provided by Hydroven will ensure precise and fast positioning of the telescope through 36 mechanisms, allowing for a full 360° rotation without unwanted vibrations.
To achieve this result, the power unit is equipped with a 10,000-liter oil tank, along with 4 motors of 90 kW each to manage the movements and 4 motors of 22 kW each for the hydraulic cooling circuit.
Construction of the astronomical observatory has already begun, and thanks to a 360° interactive webcam, progress can be monitored in real-time.
This partnership combines the experience and innovation of both companies to contribute to the success of the ELT project and advance astronomical research towards new frontiers.
